A lot of cabin homes don’t have quite as much square footage as we'd like, but that doesn’t mean they can’t feel much bigger than they are. There are several techniques you can apply to help maximize your space and give your cabin an open, expansive feel, even if you’re working with just a few square feet.
From incorporating multi-purpose furniture to making thoughtful decor decisions, these easy-to-apply tips and tricks will make your cabin look and feel a whole lot bigger than it is.
Invest in Multi-Purpose Furniture

Not only does multi-functional furniture give you more bang for your buck, but it can also maximize your space. This coffee table, for example, will look great in most living rooms all the while packing sneaky storage that you can use to house items that would otherwise encroach on your square footage.
Pay Mind to Your Furniture Arrangement
Your furniture arrangements can make a big impact on how big your space feels. To make your rooms feel larger, only include essential furniture items, rather than trying to fill every square foot. You should also make sure that the furniture is arranged in such a way that it doesn’t block daily traffic. Doing so will help ease the flow of everyday living and make your space feel more breathable.
Incorporate Tall Bookshelves
It might seem counterintuitive to add a large piece of furniture when you’re trying to make your space feel bigger, but large bookshelves are actually stellar for small spaces for two reasons. For starters, a tall bookshelf draws the eye up, making ceilings feel higher and rooms feel more expansive. Plus, bookshelves offer a ton of storage for smaller items that are taking up too much space elsewhere.
Display Artwork Above Eye-Level
Speaking of drawing the eye up, putting artwork on the wall above eye-level can also be a great way to do this. Doing so will give the illusion of a tall ceiling, especially if you create a gallery wall of several pieces that reach high up on the wall. And you can maximize this effect by incorporating art with lots of long vertical lines.
Add Mirrors
Big wall mirrors are great for making spaces look larger than they are thanks to their reflective properties. Plus, they’re an easy way to maximize natural light, which can also make your rooms feel bigger than they are.
Choose Neutral Hues
Typically, bold hues and busy patterns make spaces feel more cramped and crowded, so they’re not a great fit for a small cabin home. Instead, opt for lighter neutrals, like beige and white, which will make your home feel a lot more airy.
