Founded by a team of Harvard students seeking to help stressed out city dwellers unplug their devices and connect with nature, Getaway House offers the ultimate in peaceful, secluded retreats.

The company started in 2015 with six tiny mobile cabins, ranging from 160 to 220 square feet. The cabins were planted about an hour or so outside of several major cities, including Boston and New York. Specially designed with overworked urbanites in mind, the dwellings feature a tranquil, pared-back design, complete with a built-in cellphone lockbox to make it easy for visitors to unplug and take a break from their busy lives.

The concept for the company proved to be a big hit with folks feeling overwhelmed by the bustle of city life, so the company built additional cabins outside of 14 major cities and counting.

The cabins are heavily concentrated on the East Coast, nestled in the wilderness outside of locales like Boston and Washington, D.C., but there are also cabins located a 1-2-hour drive from cities like Austin and Nashville all the way to Los Angeles and Portland.

Each cabin features the same plumbing, electrical, and propane heating system, offering visitors fully equipped kitchens, hot showers, and an electric toilet. And the kitchen is stocked with essentials like cutlery, dishware, and pans to make it easy to cook up delicious meals while enjoying a peaceful nature retreat.

Speaking of nature, the cabins are sustainably constructed using wood cladding, frames, and finishes, along with generous windows that increase their harmony with the surrounding locale.

They also come with 1-2 queen-sized beds, depending on the cabin you book, with each bed being thoughtfully placed near a window so you can wake up among the trees. Outside, visitors are treated to their own private fire pit, grilling grate, and picnic table, with the option to purchase firewood and firestarters to further cozy things up.

Even better, the cabins are a breeze to book. All you have to do is head to the website and choose your destination. From there, you can choose the number of beds you want, book your dates, and calculate how long it takes to drive to the cabin from where you live. The rates vary by location and date, but they typically range from $100-$200 per night, which is a pretty good price in exchange for peace and tranquility.

Whether you’re overwhelmed by city life—or just life in general—Getaway House just might be the antidote you’ve been waiting for.
