During Milan Design Week in 2019, architect Beatrice Bonzanigo presented an innovative, award-winning cabin concept dubbed Casa Ojala, and now the very first unit is available for guest reservations.
According to Designboom, the transportable cabin features 1,000 different configurations and is constructed with a manual mechanical system comprising cranks, ropes, and pulleys that allow the dweller to literally transform the home to their individual needs and preferences.
The small but mighty 27-square-meter cabin features two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living space, and a rooftop terrace, all of which can be configured into one another. In other words, the living room can become a bedroom or the bedroom can transform into an outdoor platform—the possibilities are seemingly endless, offering guests full control of their environment.
These configurations are possible thanks to the cabin’s mechanical system, allowing dwellers to manually move the home’s fabric and wood walls, ceiling panels, and mahogany floor as they see fit.
The cabin also features a rainwater collection system to promote sustainability, as well as systems for managing grey, black, and clean water for true off-grid living. And because no luxury home is complete without a deep-soaking tub, the unit has a beautiful sculptural bathtub that guests can use in privacy or release the surrounding walls for an open-air bathing experience.
All of the home’s materials were thoughtfully selected and include fabrics composed of recycled plastic, handmade ceramics, and beautiful timbers, creating a warm, organic space that’s also highly sustainable.
But the best part? You can now book a stay in this gorgeous getaway and see all of its beauty firsthand. Bonzanigo partnered with luxury Italian hotel Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco to offer the very first Casa Ojala guest suite in Tuscany. “We are proud to launch, starting in Italy in synergy with Castiglion del Bosco, to offer its guests of exception an absolutely unique chance of enjoying and discovering the wonders of the hotel,” Bonzanigo said of the launch.
The suite is nestled in the Capanna Vineyard and offers complete privacy coupled with panoramic views of rolling hills and majestic cypress trees. “I consider the luxury of the casa that I invented a form of happiness for the guests of the best hotels around the world,” Bonzanigo remarked. “A sort of revival of handicraft as the root of evolution. Beyond the automatism of travel and living of our times, based on virtuality and hyper technology.”
