Architectural firm ADX developed a series of tiny, prefabricated cabins designed to be the perfect vacation homes for anyone living in or visiting Japan. Dubbed SANU cabins, the dwellings are offered on a subscription system that guests can reserve monthly any time they’re looking for a peaceful, nature-infused getaway. But the cabins are so beautiful, you might struggle to leave them to explore the natural beauty you’re surrounded by.

The minimalist architectural design offers harmony with the natural environment, both in appearance and construction. Each cabin will comprise 100% domestic wood and recycled concrete, and it can be disassembled and rebuilt virtually anywhere. Inside, visitors are greeted with soaring, 13-foot ceilings and large windows that offer picturesque views of the outdoors. Meanwhile, an open living room gives the cabins an airy, expansive appearance that belies their small size.

The cabins also feature a complete kitchen with a wood-burning stove, a bathroom, a workspace, and even a home theater, allowing guests to maximize their comfort and relaxation. And a charming wooden deck that surrounds the structures invites guests to enjoy a morning cup of coffee while taking in the stunning view.

Speaking of views, ADX is planning to construct the cabins with stunning views in mind. The team is planning to complete 40 cabins across five sites by the end of 2021 and 90 cabins across 10 sites by mid-2022. Each of the sites was chosen for its beautiful surroundings, often bordering national park lands, overlooking lakes, and/or surrounded by forested mountains. For instance, Lake Shirakaba in Japan’s Nagano prefecture will be among the first sites to host these cabins. The locale offers stunning lake and mountain views and easy access to skiing and hiking trails.

Despite the cabins’ beautiful designs and stunning locales, they’re actually relatively affordable. Anyone can rent them for ¥55,000 per month, which translates to about $500. During that month, renters can visit the cabin at any time, enjoying a peaceful retreat in a cozy, design-forward dwelling.
